NTK Cutting Tools A big splash with small hole boring tools
UK – The coolant facility available on the Splash range of NTK’s Stick Duo line evacuates swarf from the work area and from inside small bores and holes.
The Splash line blasts high-pressure coolant directly through the tool to the cutting edge. NTK asserts that its Stick Duo double-ended solid carbide boring bars can improve surface finish, tool life and productivity for small parts turning shops.
The majority of world's sliding head turning centres are manufactured in Japan and NTK says that it worked with them in the development of the Stick Duo Splash boring bars. The line offers a range of options including an SBFS type carbide bar for boring; SBFB type for profiling; and SBG type for internal grooving operations. The SBFS type is suitable for bores and holes from two to 8mm diameter with boring bar diameters in 1 mm increments. It has a sharp cutting edge with a 5° clearance and rake angle and is available with an overall length of 50, 60, 70 or 80 mm.
The SBFB boring bar has an F Style chipbreaker which removes chips from the cutting area and is specifically for profiling small bores from 2 to 6 mm diameters. It has a corner radius of 0.05 or 0.15 mm.
The internal SBG type is for bore diameters from 3 to 8 mm with a groove width of 0.5, 0.75, 1, 1.5 and 2 mm. The clearance between the boring bar and the cutting edge allows a grooving depth of 0.8, 1, 1.2, 1.8 or 2.2 mm. These have an overall length of 50 to 80 mm.
