Takumi presents a new 5-axis machining centre at EMO Hannover. The gantry layout requires very little space. The company is especially proud of the surfaces the machine is able to produce. According to the maker, the machine is ideal for applications that require a high speed and surface quality. A typical application is tool and mould making as the requirements for speed and accuracy are very high in that sector.

The machine comes with a rotary table with a diameter of 800 mm. The maximum table load is 1000 kg, Takumi announced. Pieces machined in the U800 can therefore be quite huge and heavy. The A- and C-axes are driven by torque motors (A-axis: torque drive on both sides). These direct drives feature high drive and clamping torque and stand out for their compact structures. They are virtually wear-free and therefore require minimal maintenance.

Takumi's machines are equipped with control systems by Heidenhain. This enables contour programming in the conversational control system or in parallel, as well as freely definable contours and ISO-NC programming, we hear.

At EMO Hannover, Takumi shares a booth with Hurco. The Taiwan-based company specialising in machines for tool and mould making belongs to Hurco since October 2015.
